A.M.S. New Generation Barges Receive Strong Demand on North West Shelf

News

The start of Q2, 2014 has been a really busy period for A.M.S. Team as new generation barges A.M.S. PERTH & A.M.S. DARWIN have won numerous contract. Both of these barges have been heavily involved in the project on North West Shelf especially at Cape Lambert and Port Headland.

Their first project in Cape Lambert was participating in the delivery of various pre-fabricated heavy module (Heavy cargo). The heavy cargo was off-loaded at sea from incoming heavy-lift cargo vessels and transported to the respective barge landing site. The operation was overall a great success.

Shortly after the completion of the project, both of these barges has secured another contract, A.M.S. DARWIN, has won to assist in the Anderson Point berth expansion project in Port Hedland where as A.M.S. PERTH stayed in Cape Lambert.

For the Anderson Point berth expansion Project, A.M.S. DARWIN a 230ft x 80ft x16ft Deck Cargo Ballast Tank Barge has been assisting in the construction of a 306m long wharf extension and maintenance platform to accommodate a travelling ship loader from the existing berth by handling of the first shipment of pipelines arriving in heavy-lift vessel; where she has been storing the piles and berthing alongside a crane barge for the piling works.

Similarly, A.M.S. PERTH a 250ft x 80ft x 16ft Deck Cargo Ballast Tank Barge has assisted in Cape Lambert acting as a working platform where the client placed 2 cranes on her strong 25t/m2 deck.

A.M.S. believes that the accomplishment of this contract was a result of the success of A.M.S. HENDERSON – 2011 built 250ft Deck Cargo Ballast Tank barge which has been a common sight over the past couple of years, where she was assisting in similar work scope for various landmark projects in the NWS, most recently in the East Intercourse Island Dolphin Replacement project located in Dampier.

With the involvement of these new projects, A.M.S.’ position within the NWS region has been fortified. As always A.M.S. Tugs & Barges strives to continuously service the industry with vessels that are unparalleled to other vessel providers.
