Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) Modules

Operational Photos

In early June this year, A.M.S. Tugs & Barges was awarded a contract to transport AWD modules from Newcastle, NSW to Osborne, SA.

The Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program is one of the largest multi-phased defence projects in Australia which will significantly increase Australia’s defence capabilities. This program will provide air defence for accompanying ships, land forces and infrastructure in coastal areas, and self-protection against missiles and aircraft.

The AWD program utilises a modular construction method. Shipyards in various locations in Australia and overseas construct modules or blocks, that are then transported to ASC/Techport in SA where they are joined and assembled to build the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD). Some of the blocks weigh well over 100 tonnes.
